PACKAGES AND PRICES
As standard our packages and pricing indicated below are for full-board guided trips for catfish. Depending on the season, and availability of guides we may be able to offer zander (spin/baitfish) and carp packages on a full or half board basis and the prices will vary according to your specific requirements. Holidays start from Sunday and finish the following Sunday, unless specific alternative arrangements are made prior to your booking with us.
We offer different price points for peak and low season. This is not necessarily a reflection of the quality of sport available, rather an indication of when we can fill all of our accommodation more regularly. Low season is January, February, March, April, May, August and November. Peak season is June, July, September and October. We close during December. Contact us to discuss when would be the best time for your holiday.
The prices quoted below include the following standard features :-
- Airport collection and drop off
- Full board catering
- Tackle and terminal tackle
- An experienced guide fishing a pre-baited swim
For more details of each element, please see relevant sections below.
AIRPORT COLLECTION AND DROP OFF
STOP PRESS! WE ARE NOW OFFERING AIRPORT PICKUPS FROM ZARAGOZA AND REUS FOR EASY ACCESS FROM THE NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE UK.
Provided your flight arrives at either Reus (before midday) or Zaragoza (afternoon flight) we can collect you. This will make it far easier for our Northern UK based guests to find a variety of flights from Northern airports, saving you travelling time.
In some circumstances we may be able to collect from Barcelona (£400 surcharge). If you can’t get to Zaragoza or Reus, we would normally recommend renting a car or booking a train to save money. We can point you in the right direction on this should you wish. Please note we operate a strict no-smoking policy in all of our vehicles.
We offer 3 types of accommodation. The most cost effective is in a twin room in the Jolly Fisherman. A premium upgrade of a room with private bathroom and TV is also available. The riverside villa, “La Barca” is available for groups of 3-8, although the recommended maximum is 6 people. Full details of all of our accommodation is available on this section of our website. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us.
FULL BOARD CATERING
As standard we offer our guests a full board catering package. In our experience after going fishing for the day, the last thing guests want to do is have to worry about cooking. The Jolly Fisherman offers quality food that will not disappoint. You will get:-
- A cooked breakfast in the morning at the Jolly Fisherman
- A medium sized baguette with water and soft drinks for lunch
- An evening meal after fishing in the Jolly Fisherman
Alcoholic drinks and extra snacks are not included, but are available at the bar at competitive prices. Please note that for evening meals, guests staying at La Barca may wish to barbeque evening meals with food supplied by us (included in your package) instead of returning to the Jolly Fisherman. Your guide is there to assist with this, although please be aware that you must be prepared to muck in with the cooking and cleaning up! Kegs of beer are also available for guests at La Barca.
TACKLE AND TERMINAL TACKLE
All guided Catfish tours come complete with the use of quality tackle with all terminal tackle included free of charge whilst you are fishing alongside your guide.
All guests wishing to fish for carp are required to bring their own reels and alarms. They are also advised to bring their own terminal tackle, since we only carry the bare essentials.
AN EXPERIENCED GUIDE & PREBAITED SWIM
All guided Catfish tours include full guiding. As standard this will be bank-fishing with your guide on a pre-baited and field-tested spot. Our typical method is pellet fishing at a distance, with the baits dropped via the guide’s boat. This style of fishing has been proven to be the best way of catching lots of fish during your stay. No previous experience of Catfishing is required. The bait used during your trip is not included. Guests should budget on using one sack of pellets per fisherman, per day. A sack costs 60 euros, although individuals buying for the week (6 bags) will get one of these free of charge.
WHEN TO COME AND WHAT TO EXPECT
The Ebro offers superb fishing more or less throughout the year, but certain times may be more suitable for what you would like to do or achieve. Fishing is fishing of course and can be hard to predict, but here is a general indication of what you might expect with a fully guided holiday with us.
Spring and autumn.
This is often when the big fish show up! If you are looking for a real lump, then spring and autumn offers you the best chance. We typically get 8-15 fish per group in a full day session. The weather is far closer to what the UK angler is used to. It will often be very warm, but not ferocious! If you really want to tangle with a fish that breaks the 200 pound barrier, then choose spring or autumn.
This is the time for guaranteed weather and large numbers of fish. Typically you can expect between 8-25 fish per group per day. Our best ever was 102 cats (35 over the ton) in a single day with a single group. Insane! There were some very sore backs the next day! The weather is hot in summer. Please bear that in mind when choosing when to come with us.
Note: We have recently upgraded the Jolly Fisherman accommodation, this includes air-conditioning, which makes staying with us over the hot months much more amenable.
Obviously this can a more hit and miss time to visit, but can produce some good fishing nonetheless. Carp and zander are also available. A typical result would be around 20 cats for the week per group, which is obviously slower than the warmer months. Our best result was 78 (36 ton plus) for the week. November and February in particular can be surprisingly productive and still have some nice weather!
Carp and zander fishing
We are called Catfish Capers for a reason, but remember there is world class carp and zander fishing to be had too, with anglers arriving from all over Europe to get in on the action. Normally we carp fish alongside the catting, which does compromise the carp fishing (they are on the cat’s natural dietary menu after all), but if you want to target the carp more seriously then let us know. The trick is not to overfeed as large quantities of freebies soon attract the cats. We have found that the presence of a 200 plus cat in a carp swim does tend to quieten the action for a while… Weight wise, there are loads carp between 20 and 30 pounds and they get caught in excess of 60 pounds. Our best recorded fish is 63.5 pounds and forty plus is far from being uncommon.
The river is also famous for superb zander sport. The typical fish is 4-10 pounds, but they are caught at weights over 20 pounds. There are also many, many school fish to keep you entertained. Again, let us know if you would prefer to target the zander and we will let you know your options for that time of year.
This depends on the time of the year and your choice of accommodation. Peak season is June, July, September and October. Low season is January, February, March, April, May, August and November. We also offer part-weeks (during low season only). These run Wed to Sun (£430 per man) and Sun to Wed (£320 per man).
Prices are per fisherman, full board with airport transfer and tackle included. Minimum group sizes may apply.
